After two weeks of testing, the GMKTec K8 Plus demonstrated reliable entry-level 1080p gaming performance. However, Wi-Fi issues with the review unit and its rising price have diminished its overall appeal. Its final value largely depends on the actual street price and the condition of its networking hardware.
The tested 32GB RAM model features an AMD Ryzen 7 8845HS eight-core, sixteen-thread processor and Radeon 780M integrated graphics, with promotional prices ranging from approximately $750 to $950. The 16GB version sometimes drops to around $600, while this series has historically been priced between $400 and $500.
During game testing, lightweight titles ran smoothly overall. Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Total War: Three Kingdoms, and Cyberpunk 2077 all hovered around 40 FPS at medium settings. Performance dropped significantly when switching to high settings, though enabling FSR helped improve frame rates.
The machine comes equipped with a 1TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD and offers two USB 4 ports, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, dual RJ45 Ethernet ports, and the less common Oculink interface, supporting up to four external monitors. The top cover can be unscrewed to upgrade memory and storage, supporting up to 96GB of SODIMM RAM and a 4TB M.2 2280 drive.
During testing, the review unit's Wi-Fi download speeds were abnormally slow, with tasks that usually take about an hour sometimes requiring an entire night. Buyers may need to budget for replacing the Wi-Fi card; meanwhile, the Oculink port, easy upgradeability, and daily productivity capabilities remain the mini PC's main selling points.
