"K-POP: Demon Hunters 2" Reportedly Plans Theatrical Release, Decision Not Yet Official

"K-POP: Demon Hunters 2" may be scheduled for a theatrical release from the outset, avoiding the original film's distribution path which prioritized streaming before a limited theatrical run. However, this decision has not yet been officially confirmed by the film studio or Sony.

On October 20, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Dan Lin, former head of the film division, was involved in finalizing the theatrical distribution plan for the sequel. As these arrangements have not yet been officially announced, this information remains based on media reports, with the distribution method, release regions, and specific release date still to be confirmed.

News about the sequel's development first emerged in late 2025. At the time, reports indicated that the film and Sony had reached an agreement to produce a second feature-length animation, targeting a 2029 release. During the same period, there were rumors of expansion plans including a live-action film, stage play, two sequels, spin-off series, and short films, but none of these projects have been officially announced by the film studio to date.

Co-director Kang previously stated that the original film's 85-minute runtime could not accommodate all character backgrounds and unresolved questions. The original film later became the most-watched title on the platform, spawning sing-along versions, live performances, Halloween costumes, and collaborations with McDonald's, Fortnite, and LEGO. Its subsequent limited theatrical release was also well-received.
