ARK: Survival Ascended's Unreal Engine 5.8 update will launch across all platforms on October 28 (Pacific Time). At the same time, the Fantasy Creatures Bundle Season 1 roster continues to expand. Following the implementation of the three-headed Cerberus, the new creature "Enigmasaur" has been officially revealed—it can fully mimic other creatures while retaining their ability traits during transformation. This simultaneous technical refresh and fantasy creature expansion brings multiple expectations for hardcore players, veteran survivors, and taming enthusiasts.
Unreal Engine 5.8: One of the Most Significant Technical Milestones to Date
On October 28 (Pacific Time), Unreal Engine 5.8 officially launches. Upgrading to Unreal Engine 5.8 marks one of the most significant technical milestones for ARK: Survival Ascended to date. The engine team is fully committed to this upgrade, focusing on optimizing actual game performance, fixing platform-specific issues, and laying a solid technical foundation for all future content.
In other words, this underlying upgrade is not just about immediate visual performance and stability; it also paves the way for a series of future content updates—the more solid the engine foundation, the greater the room for expansion in future updates.
Enigmasaur: A Living Swiss Army Knife That "Becomes" Your Prey
The Fantasy Creatures Bundle welcomes a new member with a completely different style—the Enigmasaur. This insectivorous creature is highly adaptable yet almost impossible to describe conventionally: it doesn't just "look like" other creatures; it completely transforms into them. Observers have witnessed a giant chameleon-like entity steal the form of a nearby Direwolf, so convincingly that it was accepted by the pack and even hunted alongside them until it found an opportunity to revert to its true form and habits. Because of this, if you know what to look for, you might be able to distinguish which animals around you are actually disguised Enigmasaurs.
Taming it doesn't involve the usual knockout-and-feed method: you must first demonstrate that you've already tamed the creature it is currently mimicking to impress it; then it will shift forms, and you repeat the process until you've sufficiently shown your goodwill. Once successful, your pen gains a living Swiss Army knife—after teaching the Enigmasaur to recall several forms from its "transformation memory," it retains useful traits from each creature in any current form: even if it sheds the appearance of a Giant Scorpion to become a T-Rex, its attacks can still paralyze prey as if the venomous tail stinger were still present; and once it returns to its original form, it can utilize all learned abilities simultaneously. Truly, a mystery within a mystery...
Fantasy Creatures: Cerberus & Burrow Bunny
Two of the three creatures from Season 1 of the Fantasy Creatures Bundle have already been implemented: the first creature, the Burrow Bunny, launched on May 20, focusing on map mobility and ambushes through tunneling and temporary passages; the second creature, the Cerberus, followed on September 20. This imposing behemoth can carry a single survivor into battle, but you'll only witness its true power when accompanied by trusted tribe members. Its three heads each have their own temperaments and form unique cooperative patterns—survivors who learn to coordinate all three heads will find that an attack initiated by one head can be followed up with devastating effects by another. Whether riding alone or fighting alongside your tribe, this three-headed beast offers more than just one combat style.
The Burrow Bunny is a swift and agile utility creature, perfect for controlling the map, confusing enemies, and setting clever ambushes! You can dig hidden underground burrows and open temporary passages for fast long-distance travel, providing prepared survivors with new ways to deploy, retreat, or set traps. When danger approaches, the Burrow Bunny kicks up disorienting dust and leaves hidden traps behind, catching reckless enemies off guard.
The Burrow Bunny excels at confusing enemies, making it an indispensable tool for tribal tactical advantage. Ride this master of guerrilla warfare into unknown territories and outsmart your foes!
