Order: New Dawn, a sci-fi colonization simulation game developed by Outer Space Workshop, entered Steam Early Access on October 16. The game was originally scheduled to launch two days earlier, but the release was delayed as the store page required re-review by Valve.
The game has been in development for five years. Players take on the role of the captain of the United Stellar Expeditionary Force, stranded in the Initial Rift sector after quelling a massive galactic rebellion. They must survive on the desolate planet of New Terra and attempt to rebuild civilization from the ruins of a fallen kingdom.
The game combines open-space exploration, multi-layered phased ship design, crew management, planetary base construction, and logistics systems. The current version offers procedurally generated planets across more than ten categories, a sandbox mode covering 120 star systems, and two story scenarios. It currently supports only English and Simplified Chinese.
At launch, the game held a 51% positive rating on Steam, with a peak concurrent player count slightly above 254. Players primarily reported black screens upon startup, along with issues such as hyperspace jump anomalies, transport ships freezing during landing, lost cargo, and save synchronization errors.
A day after launch, the studio released update 0.9.0007, fixing issues such as black screens on startup, AI repair modules, interstellar movement, and item duplication. The update also added 4K resolution support, removed frame rate caps, and introduced a 120 FPS mode. Developers expect Early Access to last about a year, with plans to add large-scale faction wars, a dynamically changing universe, and built-in modding tools.
