AMD has confirmed it will improve FSR frame generation technology to output generated frames at a more consistent pace, enhancing motion smoothness during actual gameplay. However, the release date for the update and the GPU generations that will benefit from it have not yet been announced.
Jack Huynh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AMD's Computing and Graphics Division, confirmed this improvement direction during the company's presentation on October 20. Previous tests showed that both the older FSR 3.1 implementation and newer games with FSR 4 frame generation could suffer from uneven frame pacing, making motion appear disjointed even when frame rates were high.
Relevant tests involved Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Desert. AMD's statement confirms that there is still room for improvement in the current experience, but the available information is insufficient to determine whether the update will completely resolve the issues observed during testing.
The demonstration did not reveal any FSR multi-frame generation features. Third-party developers had previously showcased 3x to 6x generation modes on Radeon hardware, and experimental settings appeared in AMD drivers, but these settings did not function properly. The so-called 8x option was merely placeholder content added by third-party tool developers and is not an capability confirmed by AMD. AMD has not stated whether current Radeon graphics cards will receive support for multi-frame generation.
