Infinity Ward has confirmed that PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players must use a display device that supports both 120Hz and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and enable VRR in the console's system settings, to activate Performance Mode in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III's Campaign and DMZ modes. Call of Duty: Warzone will adopt the same requirements starting from Season 1.
Official reminder: If the refresh rate for the relevant mode is locked at 60Hz, players should first confirm whether their TV or monitor supports 120Hz and VRR, and then check if VRR is enabled in the console settings.
This restriction applies only to Performance Mode and does not raise the overall hardware requirements for the game. Players without VRR-capable displays can still choose Balanced Mode or Quality Mode on their respective consoles, but will be unable to use Performance Mode.
Infinity Ward has not yet further explained the reason for adding this requirement close to launch, nor have they announced the target frame rates, resolutions, and visual differences for each graphics mode. The core change in this adjustment is that Performance Mode now lists both a 120Hz panel and VRR as mandatory requirements for the first time.
