Resident Evil 9 PS5 Physical Edition Revenue Exceeds Total Xbox Versions by 1.8 Times

Recently, foreign media outlet Tech4Gamers, citing 2026 PlayStation physical game sales data released by Alinea Analytics, reported that the physical edition of Resident Evil 9: Requiem has sold over 1.3 million copies on the PS5 platform, generating revenue more than 1.8 times the combined total of Xbox physical, digital, and Xbox PC versions.

The report also states that the title has currently generated over $305.3 million in revenue on the PS5 platform, with approximately 30.2% coming from disc versions; the PS5 physical edition alone accounts for nearly 15% of the game's total revenue.

Previous reports indicated that over half of the sales for Resident Evil 9: Requiem in France and Japan came from physical editions, with the physical share exceeding 40% in several other regions as well.

In many countries, about half of the PS5 sales for Assassin's Creed Shadows and Astro Bot come from physical editions. The PS5 version of Marvel's Wolverine has sold 2.6 million copies, with approximately 800,000 being physical copies, generating around $64.6 million in disc sales revenue, which accounts for about 32.3% of its overall income.

The report links these figures to Sony's confirmed plan to cease production of first-party game discs starting in 2028, suggesting that PS5 players still have a significant demand for physical releases.
