Report: Beyond Good and Evil 2 Shifts to Single-Player Focus, But Gameplay Framework Remains Undecided

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is reportedly shifting toward a "single-player-first" narrative adventure direction, but the relevant gameplay framework has not yet been finalized, and the project remains in pre-production. The team is striving to pass the new development milestone and enter full production and the Alpha phase.

A survey released by Origami states that Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been in continuous development since 2017, with recruitment for related positions still ongoing in late 2025. At least 250 people are involved at Ubisoft Montpellier alone. The upcoming milestone could determine whether the project continues or is ultimately cancelled.

The game has previously experimented with small-scale matchmaking, open-world play, four-player teams, and two-player modes. The current goal is reportedly shifting toward a single-player-focused adventure that does not require a persistent online connection, centered on strong narrative content while retaining co-op play. The combat system is described as being quite similar to Insomniac's Marvel's Spider-Man series.

The Voyager engine has provided a solid foundation, but the game's core gameplay has not yet been firmly established. Ubisoft is undergoing a major restructuring, and some developers are concerned that this milestone may be the project's last chance to secure continued development. The single-player focus, co-op mode, and combat references have not yet been officially announced by Ubisoft as final designs.
