League of Legends Patch 26.22 Adjusts Mel, W Now Destroys Projectiles and Grants Shields

Riot will implement a medium-scale adjustment to Mel in League of Legends patch 26.22, with the core change being a rework of her W ability, "Deny." The new W will no longer reflect enemy projectiles back to their casters; instead, it will destroy the projectiles and trigger shields for Mel and nearby allies.

In a developer blog on October 20, Riot stated that the current reflection mechanic is very powerful and can easily cause frustration for opponents. By mid-2026, Mel's ban rate was around 15% to 30%, her win rate ranged from 45% to 47%, and her pick rate had dropped to about half of its previous level, yet she continued to appear in professional matches and high-tier ranked play.

The team believes that the current kit struggles to balance sufficient strength with a positive experience for opponents. Riot tested various options to retain the reflection mechanic, but unless it was placed as an ultimate ability, it either resulted in unacceptable counterplay experiences or became unappealing to most Mel players.

In addition to her W, Mel's other abilities will receive minor adjustments. The root duration of her E against close-range enemies will be reduced; her Q's instant burst damage will be lowered, but hitting at least one enemy champion will refund a fixed amount of cooldown; and her ultimate will gain more cooldown reduction as it levels up.

These changes are scheduled to go live with League of Legends patch 26.22 on November 4. With the removal of the reflection mechanic and the addition of shields for nearby allies, Mel's protective capabilities will undergo significant changes.
