Gray Zone Warfare version 0.5, "Rogue Ops," is scheduled for global release on October 22. Compared to version 0.4, which focused on accessibility improvements, this update further expands the gameplay structure, with the hideout and endgame loop centered around resource management becoming the main content.
Players can gather resources across an open map to build and upgrade a hideout with multi-layered mechanics, and craft necessary items. Related gameplay includes drug manufacturing, contraband transport, and the recovery and distribution of black-market military technology. The update also adds seven new weapons, improved healing mechanics, new animations, and enhanced visuals thanks to an engine upgrade.
As the gameplay focus shifts, developer MADFINGER has begun describing the game as a "mercenary simulator" rather than a "military simulator," emphasizing the lifestyle of earning money, managing resources, and investigating secrets in the Lamang region. New locations continue to point toward the mysteries of the restricted central area, Ground Zero, including an abandoned psychiatric hospital where underground experiments were conducted, a deep-space satellite station with Cold War-era bunkers, and a military base guarding the entrance to an ancient temple.
Early access impressions suggest that the new area and ongoing background clues enhance the appeal of exploration, while the hideout endgame loop, new weapons, and merchant reputation system may extend player engagement. However, these are currently just early impressions and not a full review.
Following the preview release, some players expressed dissatisfaction with weapon durability, how to obtain new weapons, and the recent "soft reset." MADFINGER's CEO subsequently addressed these concerns on social media.
