The unofficial ROM hack project Pokémon X/Y Legacy Edition is confirmed for release on November 26, 2026. Rather than completely overhauling the original game, the project adjusts gameplay while preserving the core experience, offering both Normal and Hard modes.
Normal Mode follows a traditional progression. Hard Mode enforces the "No Switching" battle rule, sets a level cap, and prohibits the use of items during battles.
The mod will also redesign trainer teams. Starting from the fourth gym, Gym Leaders will use Mega Evolution. The project only incorporates Mega Evolutions already present in the original Pokémon X/Y, maintaining the scope of Generation VI content.
Pokémon distribution in the Kalos region will also be adjusted. Early routes will feature fewer familiar older Pokémon, highlighting Generation VI members instead. Underperforming starter Pokémon like Fennekin will receive balance adjustments, and trainer configurations will offer more room for team-building experimentation.
Project lead Craig and content creator SmithPlays Pokemon previously developed legacy mods for Pokémon Yellow, Pokémon Crystal, and Pokémon Emerald. SmithPlays Pokemon has showcased these changes through gameplay videos, testing, and live streams; this project is not an official release by Nintendo or Game Freak.
