Fan Project 'Resident Evil: The Movie Game' Reveals PS1-Style Gameplay Footage

Indie developer Julian Zamora has released early gameplay footage of his fan project, Resident Evil: The Movie Game. This is not an official title from Capcom or the film studio, but rather an unofficial adaptation based on the new Resident Evil film directed by Zach Cregger.

In the footage, the film's protagonist Bryan is chased by infected dogs and attempts to hide in a barn before drawing his gun to shoot. However, judging by the current visuals, the developer seems to need to pause the environment in order to execute the shooting sequence.

The project adopts the low-poly visual style of the PS1 era and reintroduces the fixed camera angles common in 1990s horror games. Zamora is developing the game using Godot and attempting to recreate the pre-rendered backgrounds used in the original Resident Evil.

The community's initial reaction has been largely positive, with many players particularly appreciating the return of fixed camera angles, a style rarely used in recent Capcom titles. Meanwhile, some players are concerned about potential licensing issues from the film's producers and distributors, including Sony Pictures.

Zamora aims to adapt the entire film into a complete fan game, though no completion date has been announced yet. Whether the project can continue depends on whether it encounters legal hurdles. Previously, players created a Bryan character skin mod for Resident Evil 2, but this project is significantly larger in scope.
