Square Enix officially launched the new RPG Final Fantasy: Echoes on October 22. The game is available on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with the Xbox on PC version releasing simultaneously. The Steam version is scheduled for release on October 23.
Built on the concept of "what if Final Fantasy had continued to evolve while retaining its pixel art style," this title presents its game world and pixel characters through HD-2D visuals. The opening animation and story scenes also employ a "cinematic pixel" technique, converting 3DCG footage into a pixelated style.
In terms of gameplay, Final Fantasy: Echoes features turn-based command battles and a job system, while retaining series staples such as Chocobos, Summoned Beasts, and exploring the world via airship. Beyond the HD-2D presentation, strategic combat, character development, and party building form the core experience.
