EA recently laid off approximately 3% of its global workforce, affecting around 400 employees. The Battlefield 6 development teams at Ripple Effect and Motive were also impacted. Public professional profiles have confirmed that a total of five employees from the two studios were laid off, but the actual number of affected individuals remains unclear.
The confirmed departures include Corey Thomas, Character Artist at Ripple Effect; Brandon Garcia, Outsourcing Artist; Turner Spring, Technical Artist; as well as Brandon Le, Concept Artist at Motive; and Jamieson Shearer, Senior Gameplay Designer. Neither studio has issued an official announcement regarding this round of layoffs. Current information comes from public LinkedIn profiles and media verification, and should not be used to infer the overall scale of layoffs across Battlefield Studios.
EA is assisting DICE in developing the Battlefield series. Criterion, Motive, Ripple Effect, and DICE are collectively referred to as Battlefield Studios. Among them, Ripple Effect is responsible for the Portal mode in Battlefield 6, while Motive is involved in the single-player campaign development and continues working on the Iron Man game, which EA previously confirmed is still in progress.
EA had previously described Battlefield 6 as a "huge success" in an internal memo, with reports also stating that it was the best-selling premium game of 2025. There are currently no signs that DICE has been affected by this round of layoffs, while the specific scale of layoffs at Ripple Effect and Motive has yet to be disclosed.
