Nearly Half of Cyberpunk 2077's Quest Team Were Former Modders

Pawel Sasko, Associate Game Director of Cyberpunk 2077, stated that about half of the current game mission team were formerly mod authors. Some members of related creative communities have become colleagues at CD Projekt Red and participated in post-launch improvements to the game.

Sasko discussed the path from mod creation to professional game development on a company program. Long-term modding requires researching game files, systems, and mission design, experiences that can also be applied to adding content and fixing issues in existing titles.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 added official mod support for consoles, backed by a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and the mod platform mod.io. The update also introduced customization for appearance cyberware, dual-wielding pistols via new abilities in the "Cool" skill tree, new missions inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and several quality-of-life improvements.

The sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in early development. Some commentators believe that developers from the modding community could influence the future of the series, but existing materials have not confirmed that specific individuals have been assigned to the sequel, nor have they verified that former mod authors will play a key role in the sequel's quality.
