Fan Developer Creates 'Gale' to Bring The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to PC

Player-developer ReviveDx is working on "Gale," an attempt to bring "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" to PC as an unofficial version. Currently, only the Great Plateau is playable, and no release date has been announced for the full version. It should not be considered an official PC release by Nintendo.

The current version adds keyboard and mouse controls, along with separate settings for graphics, audio, and controls. Players can choose frame rates of 30, 60, 90, or 120 FPS, and set voice-over and subtitle languages independently; the original Nintendo Switch version ties these two language settings together.

On the technical side, the developer has added shader and graphics pipeline caching to reduce stuttering when players revisit previously explored areas. Future plans include support for DLSS, FSR3, and variable refresh rate, adding accessibility options, and introducing a new progression system, all of which are currently in the planning stages.

"Gale" does not distribute original game files; players must own their own copy of "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" to run the project. At this stage, the project mainly provides new PC controls, performance, and language configuration options, with actual content coverage still limited to the initial area.
