Marvel's Wolverine topped the US video game sales revenue chart for September. Despite not releasing until mid-September, it secured the number one spot for the month based on revenue from physical copies and full-game digital sales, while also climbing to 11th place on the year-to-date sales chart for 2026.
Circana analyst Mat Piscatella stated that this marks the highest first-month sales revenue for a Sony-published game since Helldivers 2 in February 2024. Marvel's Wolverine faced fierce competition in September, with eight new releases among the top ten best-selling titles of the month.
There are significant differences in the sales conditions for the two games. Helldivers 2 launched simultaneously on PC and PS5 at a price of $40, while Marvel's Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive priced at $70. Therefore, achieving similar sales revenues does not imply similar unit sales.
Marvel's Wolverine's market performance contrasts with its mixed reception, as critical and player responses were not uniformly positive. GameSpot awarded it an 8/10, describing the game as "fun but forgettable."
Sony has not yet officially announced the total sales figures for this title. The estimated sales of approximately 1.9 million copies by September 18, including 799,000 physical copies, are all projections. During the same period, PS5 revenue increased by 43% year-over-year, and unit sales rose by 22%, but higher console prices compared to the previous year also contributed to the revenue growth.
