As GTA 6 approaches its release, Push Square launched a survey asking players if they would take time off on launch day, November 19, and for how long. Citing a recent report, the article estimates that around 1.5 million American employees might take leave to experience Jason and Lucia's adventure, potentially costing the U.S. approximately $1 billion in lost output within 24 hours.
This figure is merely an estimate based on potential absenteeism and labor productivity, not an actual or officially confirmed economic loss. For comparison, Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, expects operating cash flow to exceed $1 billion in the current fiscal year, with GTA 6 being the main driving factor.
A poll on the page with 381 votes showed that 33% of participants are eagerly anticipating the game and plan to take time off, 7% said they might take leave or are making arrangements, 32% plan to play after work, and another 28% have no interest in the game.
In another survey with 329 votes, 64% of participants stated they would not take time off for the game, while 10% only planned to take the day off on launch day. Plans in the comments section varied as well: some intend to use several days of annual leave, while others plan to wait for reviews, performance patches, the PC version, or the physical edition.
