The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next-Gen Update's Reworked Skill Tree and Combat Earn Author's Game of the Year

The comprehensive overhaul of the skill tree, combat, and visuals significantly changes the gameplay experience of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered. These changes have led a GamesRadar+ author to consider it their "Game of the Year," rather than just a simple graphical refresh.

The update doesn't just add new skills or Sign forms; it rebalances Sign strength in relation to character level and unlocked abilities, while simplifying the original skill tree's less intuitive damage scaling mechanics. The author particularly praises the combination of Igni and Yrden: Igni's fire stream becomes more powerful when paired with armor-melting capabilities, while Yrden's enhanced runes continuously drain the health of enemies within its area.

Griffin School armor boosts Sign output, and when combined with Manticore School abilities, bombs become even more destructive; weapon transmogrification also offers more cosmetic options. The author believes these changes give combat more weight and encourage players to actively combine skills, Signs, gear, and bombs, rather than simply seeking swords with higher attack power. The overhaul of lighting and colors also adds stronger atmosphere to older quests.

The author encountered no game-breaking issues during over 50 hours of play, but some PC players experienced performance glitches such as resource display anomalies. CDPR has already released a hotfix and separately addressed a settings toggle issue on Xbox Series S. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is now available on Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, with existing owners of the base game or Complete Edition receiving the update for free.
