The decision to shut down BioWare and cancel the Mass Effect 5 project has sparked widespread dissatisfaction. Project Director Mike Gamble recently posted a message thanking players for their continuous support and solidarity.
Gamble stated on Twitter that the team was deeply touched by everyone's support, and he also called on companies currently hiring to pay attention to his team members. He described the team as consisting entirely of "veteran core members," seemingly to preempt any doubts that the key talent behind many of BioWare's classic hits still remains at the studio.
He wrote: "I can't finish reading everyone's comments no matter how long I scroll; they are full of support for the studio, recognition of the BioWare brand's legacy, and gratitude for the impact it has had on everyone. This means a lot to us. This founding team is full of talent, so if you know of any suitable positions, please feel free to recommend them. I am willing to personally vouch for every single person on my team."
Not wanting to leave his statement in a heavy atmosphere, Gamble ended with a joke to lighten the mood.
"At least when GTA 6 is released in the future, I won't need to call in sick to skip work anymore."
Earlier this week, news emerged that EA would initiate a layoff plan affecting 400 employees after being acquired by a private investment group led by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.
Unfortunately, BioWare was also caught up in this turmoil, with the studio directly announcing its closure and all development work on Mass Effect 5 being terminated. Many developers in the industry expressed regret over this, and those who participated in the development of Mass Effect 5 stated that the game "would have been something special."
Judging from the subsequent leaks, it truly had its unique highlights. Shortly after the news broke, rumors about a trailer surfaced, and then the full trailer for Mass Effect 5 was indeed leaked online. Thinking about what it was supposed to be is truly lamentable.
