Marvel's Only Live-Action Series in Development Reveals Plot, Sparking X-Men Speculation

Marvel's only currently developing live-action series, "Zodiac," has revealed its plot setting for the first time. According to the latest reports, this new series will center on a spy narrative.

According to entertainment media outlet Deadline, the series will "revolve around two agents hunting targets with special abilities." The series is expected to officially launch in 2028, with filming starting in 2027, and Amit Cohen and Ron Leshem serving as writers.

The series was officially announced at the 2026 New York Comic-Con, where Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, hinted at Easter eggs hidden in the series logo. Some fans spotted references to "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and Clark Gregg, who played Phil Coulson, retweeted the announcement, sparking much speculation.

The latest news did not mention any connection between the series and S.H.I.E.L.D., but fans have reacted enthusiastically to the new developments. Many users on Reddit suggested that, given Marvel's setup for the X-Men films, the individuals with special abilities being hunted in the show are likely mutants.

Some users predicted that "the core plot will involve hunting mutants," while others commented that "more mutant-related series are always exciting." Another netizen remarked, "It's basically a high-budget version of 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' I'm sure the protagonist will be young Nick Fury."

Over the past year, Marvel has adjusted its development strategy for TV series. "Vision Quest" is currently airing, and the third season of "Daredevil: Born Again" is scheduled for release next year. Additionally, after the cancellation of "Wonder Man" Season 2, "Zodiac" is Marvel's only upcoming live-action series.

Winderbaum recently hinted that viewership data remains the biggest challenge he faces when pushing for series renewals.
