Developer Valentderah has announced the development of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Recomp. This is an unofficial static recompilation project for Windows, with the author claiming it can run at 60 frames per second, though these performance claims have not yet been independently verified.
According to the disclosed technical roadmap, the project will convert the original ARM64 code from the Nintendo Switch version into C code, which is then compiled for x86-64 processors, while replacing the game's NVN graphics subsystem with a Vulkan implementation. This approach aims to pre-translate the original code to enable the game to run on Windows devices, rather than relying on traditional console emulation.
The author acknowledges that stuttering may still occur during shader preparation, and issues such as graphics compatibility remain to be practically verified. The project utilizes technologies from LAS Recomp and MacNativeGames, and the author also stated that a significant portion of the code was written with the assistance of Claude Code.
The project's source code is scheduled to be released during the week starting October 26, 2026. At the time of the announcement, neither a public code repository nor a downloadable build for general users was available. It remains a development update disclosing implementation plans and performance goals, rather than a completed and widely verifiable PC port.
