Wong Tze-wah was recently spotted filming street scenes for the movie "The Midnight Killer," marking the first reveal of his character's look. He sports slightly messy, wavy hair and a worn-out jacket, presenting a weathered appearance that contrasts sharply with his polished look in the Lunar New Year film "Night King."
In photos from the set, Wong Tze-wah stands beside a dark-colored private car, with a box of what appears to be egg tarts on the roof. Following the reveal of his look, netizens speculated that he might be playing a detective, a victim's family member, or a villain, with some drawing connections to Lam Kwok-wan, the real-life "Rainy Night Butcher." However, the netizen who posted the photos explicitly stated that Wong Tze-wah's character is "definitely not Lam Kwok-wan," leaving his specific identity unconfirmed for now.
"The Midnight Killer" marks singer Jan Lamb's directorial debut, with Chan Wing-lun serving as producer. Jan Lamb announced the project back in 2024, later revealing that it had been in development for eight years. Inspired by the 1980s Hong Kong "Rainy Night Butcher" case, the film is not a direct adaptation but rather a new suspense story expanding on the theme.
The film's cast has remained shrouded in mystery. In August 2024, citizens photographed Wong Tze-wah meeting Simon Yam at a restaurant, reportedly joined by Jan Lamb and Chan Wing-lun. Simon Yam previously portrayed a killer based on the real-life case in the 1992 film "Dr. Lamb," but his involvement in "The Midnight Killer" and the role he plays remain unconfirmed.
