Shortly after Beast of Reincarnation launched on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S earlier this month, Game Freak and Fictions promised to fix some of the game's major issues. Following the weekly update model previously adopted by Pearl Abyss, the developer of Crimson Desert, Beast of Reincarnation has now released its second patch, adding more long-awaited features such as camera adjustments and subtitle size options, while also promising more improvements in the future.
Version 1.0.8 brings several highly requested changes
The version 1.0.8 update for Beast of Reincarnation, now live on all platforms, fully demonstrates Game Freak and Fictions' commitment to player feedback. This update includes several highly requested changes from the community, such as new camera distance options, adjustments to camera behavior during and outside of combat, and the ability to adjust subtitle size.
Added player camera distance options: Near, Medium, Far
Made multiple adjustments to the player camera during and outside of combat
Camera performance will continue to be optimized in future updates as needed
Adjusted camera cuts in some game cutscenes
In addition, Beast of Reincarnation has introduced some equally practical improvements, such as adding more objective markers in the early game story to help players find their way more easily, along with some overall balance adjustments.
However, in my opinion, the most noteworthy change is the adjustment to the enemy attack interruption mechanic. Now, enemy attacks are more restricted during player animations for "Execution," "Assist Execution," "Assassination," and "Assist Assassination."
During my first playthrough, I lost count of how many times I got hit by enemies right after finishing an execution. The issue was that Emma's recovery speed after an execution wasn't fast enough, often leaving her vulnerable before she could dodge. This change should make combat feel fairer and further enhance the overall enjoyment of the game.
What improvements are coming to Beast of Reincarnation?
The two patches released so far are just the beginning. Game Freak and Fictions have promised more optimizations for the game in the future.
In addition to adding NVIDIA DLSS and AMD FSR Frame Generation technologies to further improve gameplay smoothness, the development team is preparing the following features:
Ability to skip certain events and cutscenes
Support for ultra-wide monitors
Adjusted the healing mechanic in the game
And more improvements
To be fair, even with all the issues present at launch, I still really enjoyed Beast of Reincarnation. However, the player community was clearly less forgiving, so these changes are undoubtedly a good thing, allowing more players to truly enjoy the game.
At least in my opinion, Beast of Reincarnation remains a solid action RPG. Its combat system, which combines action combat with turn-based mechanics, is particularly interesting, and as subsequent patches address current issues, the overall experience of the game is expected to improve further.
