GTA 6 Launches with 30 FPS Only, No 60 FPS High-Performance Mode

The extended gameplay footage of GTA 6 has finally been officially revealed to players worldwide, and based on current performance, Rockstar has clearly lived up to player expectations.

GTA 6 not only advances in simulation mechanics and gameplay, but its visual presentation alone has reached a unique level. As more game information is revealed, it has been confirmed that the base PS5 will run GTA 6 at 4K and 30 FPS.

According to reports on social media, when Rockstar showcased the game to content creators this July, GTA 6 was already running at 4K and 30 FPS. Recent game videos released by Netflix further confirm this, indicating that the game is currently targeting 30 FPS.

It's important to note that this resolution and frame rate target applies to the base PS5. However, considering GTA 6's high demands on CPU performance, the PS5 Pro is also expected to maintain similar 30 FPS performance.

As for 4K resolution, it's currently uncertain whether GTA 6 uses native 4K or achieves 4K through upscaling. However, considering the visual quality Rockstar has demonstrated so far, the latter seems more likely.

Overall, Rockstar seems to be pushing the performance limits of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S even further. Although the 30 FPS performance might disappoint some players, judging by the visuals and game scale shown so far, sacrificing some frame rate seems worthwhile.

So will GTA 6 offer a high-performance mode that lowers resolution in exchange for 60 FPS? According to Rockstar, this feature will not be available at launch.

According to reports, development lead Rob Nelson told YouTuber Davy Jones that GTA 6 is currently only running at 30 FPS during the console development phase.

Davy Jones is one of several content creators who recently visited Rockstar North studio to experience the game. Flow Games reported that game performance ranges may change in the future, including after launch. Nelson stated that he currently cannot make any commitments regarding other details such as resolution.

"According to Rockstar's lead developer and co-director Rob Nelson, during development, consoles run the game at 30 frames per second. It still needs consultation with the technical team to determine whether a 60 FPS option will be provided at launch (or in the future). He also emphasized that it is currently unclear about resolution and other technical details, such as ray tracing support, but for now, the game performance is 30 FPS."

GTA 6 will only offer a 30 FPS mode at launch, consistent with Rockstar's previous open-world game style. GTA 5 didn't offer a 60 FPS option until the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S next-gen console versions were released. And Red Dead Redemption 2 still hasn't received an official 60 FPS upgrade for modern consoles.
