IGN has given it a positive review with a score of 8, stating: While many of The Sinking City 2's core mechanics and its real-time survival horror experience often feel like a budget version of Resident Evil, it does a commendable job of emulating its primary inspirations and cleverly incorporates elements of the Cthulhu Mythos.

IGN (8/10):

While many of The Sinking City 2's core mechanics and its real-time survival horror experience often feel like a budget version of Resident Evil, it deserves credit for how well it emulates its primary inspirations. The storytelling sometimes reveals the limitations of its production values, and I wish the detective elements were richer and more challenging. However, facing powerful enemies while watching my resources dwindle in some truly inspired, meticulously detailed, and memorable environments reminded me of the best aspects of the genre. In the Cthulhu Mythos, no one gets a truly happy ending. But I was quite satisfied with this latest thrilling glimpse into that writhing core.
