Bought Three RAM Kits and Left Them in a Villa: Value Quadrupled After a Year, Now Worth $20,000

Recently, foreign player jmg5 posted about his experience, In early 2025, he spent $717 (approximately RMB 4,820) to buy three sets of G.SKILL Trident Z5 Royal Neo memory. He then forgot them on a shelf at his lakeside villa. When he recently rediscovered them, he found that the price for a single set of the same memory had now exceeded $1,000.

The player stated that he initially purchased a batch of hardware for his own PC, his son's PC, and the build at his lakeside villa. He deliberately bought extra, planning to return any unused items to Amazon.

The three sets of G.SKILL Trident Z5 Royal Neo 8000MT/s memory were thus taken to the lakeside villa, placed on a shelf, and completely forgotten.

The two sets on the left and right are 32GB versions with timings of CL38-48-48-128, each purchased for $214.99; the middle set is a 48GB version with timings of CL40-48-48-128, purchased for $287, totaling $717 for all three sets.

Currently on Amazon, the same 32GB 8000MT/s kit is listed at $1,079.99. The total price for three kits exceeds $3,000 (approximately RMB 20,168), which is more than four times the original purchase price.

The player went to his vacation home over the weekend to retrieve the memory, intending to build a gaming rig featuring the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. However, the post was deleted shortly after being published, possibly because he felt it was inappropriate to flaunt his low-price purchase amidst the current memory shortage, especially since many players currently cannot find memory at reasonable prices.
