With Gamescom just around the corner, rumors about Xbox potentially unveiling a mysterious new title have taken a turn. Well-known leaker NateTheHate, who had previously hinted at an "interesting new release" making an appearance, has recently revised his statement, indicating that based on the latest information, it is unlikely that Xbox will announce any new games at the event.
NateTheHate initially revealed on August 15 that he had heard Xbox would announce an "interesting new game" at Gamescom. He later provided more details: the game would be a new entry in an existing series rather than a brand-new IP; while Microsoft owns the IP rights, development is being handled by an external third-party studio, not by one of Microsoft's first-party teams. Furthermore, he had previously ruled out the possibility of a new entry in the Banjo-Kazooie series.
However, as the event approaches, the leaker has adjusted his expectations. In his latest update, he wrote, "Based on some recent internal discussions, it seems unlikely we'll see any new Xbox game announcements at Gamescom." This shift suggests that the previously speculated "mysterious new title" may not appear at this year's show.
Although plans to announce new titles may have changed, Xbox's presence at this year's Gamescom remains substantial. To celebrate the brand's 25th anniversary, Xbox will set up over 140 demo stations on-site, offering hands-on experiences for up to 25 different games.
Xbox will host two official live streams during the event, scheduled for August 26 and August 27. The broadcasts will feature developer interviews, guest discussions, gameplay demos, and trailers. Additionally, Geoff Keighley's Opening Night Live pre-Gamescom show will take place on August 25, leaving open the possibility that Xbox may reserve some surprises for these streams.
