"GTA 6" Bilibili Demo Features Dozens of Blurred Scenes, Sparking Heated Discussion Among Domestic and International Netizens

Rockstar Games recently released a 27-minute extended demo of GTA 6 on Bilibili. Compared to versions on other platforms, this video features dozens of blurred sections, affecting scenes involving dancing, cigarettes, drugs, and bloody corpses.

The demo was released last week, shortly after the premiere of Netflix's "GTA VI: Extended Look." X user @videotech was the first to notice the changes in the video, and members of the GTAForums community subsequently compiled the affected scenes.

Dancing, drug scenes, and sexually suggestive content in the video have all been censored. The scene featuring protagonists Jason and Lucia in a nightclub is almost entirely covered by purple blur blocks, making most of the content unrecognizable.

In another scene, Jason's hand holding a cigarette is blurred; in beach shots, parts of the crowd are also obscured. Most bodies on the street remain visible, but close-ups of corpses with blood are completely blurred out.

GTAForums user BDF stated that these changes were not present when the video was first uploaded; Rockstar added them later, around August 31. Rockstar has not yet explained the reason for the delayed modification of the video.

BDF also noted that these adjustments have sparked mixed reactions on Tieba and other Chinese player communities. Some users believe the blurring may be intended to restrict minors' access to controversial content, while others view it as discriminatory treatment by Rockstar and publisher Take-Two Interactive.

Additionally, BDF claims that Rockstar and Take-Two are issuing DMCA takedowns against users who re-upload uncensored versions of the video to Bilibili. GTA 6 is currently scheduled to launch on PS5 and Xbox Series platforms on November 19.
