The development team for "Atelier Celia: The Alchemist of the Night Kingdom and the Guiding Light of Memories" is working hard to implement a body size change mechanic for the protagonist. While no final decision has been officially announced, the team has already begun preparations to realize this feature.
Producer Junzo Hosoi and Director Daiki Fukui discussed the results of a player survey in an interview released on September 16. Nearly 75% of participants strongly requested the addition of a body size change mechanic, with this figure reaching 90% among English-speaking users. The survey covered Asia, North America, and Europe, with overall feedback from all regions leaning towards support, and North American players showing the most enthusiastic response.
Daiki Fukui stated that the team had considered various outcomes when launching the survey and had prepared in advance for the actual development of the mechanic. Although there are certain challenges involved, it will not significantly impact the overall development schedule of the game.
Eating is one of the core gameplay mechanics of this title. The protagonist, Celia, can consume regular food, crafted items, and even weapons and bombs. Items consumed during exploration and combat will alter her appearance and abilities, with the game featuring over 100 different changes related to eating.
The team previously wanted to gauge whether players would accept Celia becoming plumper after eating large amounts of food. Among those who supported the body size change feature, 62% preferred locking in their desired body type, while another 32% wanted the body size to change automatically based on how much they ate. The team has not yet announced which method will be ultimately adopted.
"Atelier Celia: The Alchemist of the Night Kingdom and the Guiding Light of Memories" is scheduled for release in early 2027 on Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
