Publisher Ubisoft and developer Evil Empire have released the trailer for the "Anniversary" update to Prince of Persia: The Rogue. This update adds the Ice element, new tools and weapons, new arena challenges, full difficulty and boss battle balance adjustments, and more.
This adjustment first recalibrates difficulty and pacing for the early-game experience and overall flow, aiming to reduce early frustration while preserving room for mastery later on. Some areas now include sections that require wall-running to pass, and wall-running now charges the Vayu energy bar; the Zagros and Aqueduct areas have been condensed to reduce repetitive travel and get players back into combat faster.
The core addition of this update is the Freeze element: stacking two layers on an enemy will completely freeze them and interrupt their attacks, dealing high damage when the freeze ends; enemies in water receive double stacks, and kicks can instantly shatter frozen targets, serving tactical repositioning.
The equipment and progression system has also been expanded. Weapons can now generate up to four affix slots, with qualities ranging from Bronze to Diamond, and players can reroll affixes at Astara's shop. Run stats have been added to the Oasis and post-run screens to help track performance and time spent. Since critical hit builds were previously growing too strong, the update nerfs them while adding the new Critical Sharpener medal as compensation.
Other additions include a new tool, a new weapon, the "Suspicious Chest" chaotic combat arena, enemy density adjustments, elite enemy medal drops, quality-of-life improvements, and a rework of the final boss Nogai's fight.
Details below:
Smoother Start and Flow
Difficulty and pacing have been carefully adjusted to provide a more satisfying challenge—reducing early frustration and offering more room for pure mastery over time.
Improved Wall-Running Mechanics – Too many players were easily defeating General Behrud using air dashes. We've now added mandatory wall-running sections to help players master the correct flow.
Vayu Energy Boost – Wall-running now actively fills your Vayu energy bar, rewarding you for maintaining stylish aerial maneuvers.
Faster Pacing – The Zagros and Aqueduct segments have been condensed to reduce return-trip fatigue, getting you into the action faster.
Freeze Element
Once, while fishing, my grandfather adjusted his fisherman's hat and said, "Son, there's no good rogue-lite game without deep elemental interactions." We kept his wise fishing advice in mind and introduced Freeze:
Freezing Enemies – Stack twice to completely freeze enemies, interrupting their attacks.
Shatter and Synergy – Freezing ends with a burst of heavy damage. Enemies in water receive double stacks, and quick kicks can instantly shatter them for tactical repositioning.
New Gear, Stats Interface, Balance Adjustments, and Everythinggj Else
Run Stats Screen – Track your performance and run times in the Oasis and after successful runs.
Weapon Affixes – Weapons can now generate up to four affix slots (Bronze to Diamond), and you can reroll these affixes at the Astara shop.
Critical Hit Nerf – The power growth of critical hit builds got out of hand, so we've slightly weakened them (don't worry, the new Critical Sharpener medal will help).
A brand-new challenge—the chaotic "Suspicious Chest" combat arena awaits you.
Plus a ton of extra content—a reworked final boss (Nogai is now even more terrifying), reworked monster density, elite enemy medal drops, and numerous gameplay optimization fixes.
Prince of Persia: The Rogue is now available on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X, Switch, and PC (Steam, Epic, and Ubisoft Store).
