Nintendo hopes to expand the audience for The Legend of Zelda series through a live-action film, reaching new viewers beyond existing players and fans. The film is being developed in collaboration between Nintendo and Sony Pictures, and is currently scheduled for release on April 30, 2027.
Devon Pritchard, President and COO of Nintendo of America, discussed this partnership in an interview. She stated that Nintendo is working with Sony Pictures on the film, which is scheduled for release in late April.
Pritchard believes that partnering with Sony and Sony Pictures can create new touchpoints around The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo hopes to present related experiences in a broader way, serving existing players and fans while also bringing the series to new audiences.
The film was previously delayed to May 7, 2027, due to production issues, before its release date was moved up to April 30 of the same year. The currently announced title has no subtitle.
