Valve has completed a one-time random allocation for the first batch of Steam Frame purchase eligibility and has begun notifying registered users via email. Community surveys have currently received over 35,000 responses, with 44.7% of participants securing a reservation and 51.6% placed on the waitlist.
This random allocation took place on September 17, for participants who had previously registered on the Steam store page. The draw results determine whether users are eligible to purchase the first batch of devices; those who did not secure a reservation spot are placed on the waitlist.
The above percentages come from a community statistics website established by coah80, where participating users could select "Waitlisted," "Reserved," or "No email received yet." In addition to the two main outcomes, 3.8% of participants reported not having received a notification email so far. The data is still growing and does not represent official allocation figures released by Valve.
Users who receive a reservation will have priority to purchase the first batch of Steam Frames. If someone ultimately fails to complete their purchase, the corresponding device will be offered sequentially to the next user on the waitlist. After processing the initial reserved orders, Valve will continue to fulfill waitlist requests in queue order.
Steam Frame is available in 256GB and 1TB storage capacities. The community website also collected information on the model and region registered by participants, and feedback from all regions shows that more people chose the 256GB version.
The internal storage of the Steam Frame cannot be upgraded, but capacity can be expanded via a microSD card. Users who primarily use streaming features have relatively limited local storage needs, so differences in capacity and price may also be key considerations when registering.
