Huabei, Baitiao, and Monthly Payment Options to Be Removed from Payment Choices: No More Accidental Overspending

According to reports, under the latest financial regulatory requirements, starting next month, common monthly credit products like Huabei and Baitiao will no longer appear directly in the default option list on the main payment page for daily online transactions.

Of course, familiar services like Huabei, Baitiao, and various consumer monthly payment products will not disappear or be discontinued entirely. However, in accordance with the "Administrative Measures for Online Marketing of Financial Products" jointly issued by the People's Bank of China and seven other departments, all such credit products will be mandatorily removed from the default options on the main payment page starting September 30, 2026, and consolidated into a dedicated financial products section.

The new regulations explicitly emphasize that non-bank payment institutions must no longer display financial products such as loans and asset management products alongside regular payment tools. It is prohibited to place credit options in the same selection list as ordinary payment methods like bank cards and account balances, thereby misleading users.

After the adjustment, ordinary users can still normally use related credit services. Personal credit limits, outstanding bills, and repayment rules remain entirely unaffected. The only change is that an extra step is required during selection: users must manually enter a dedicated section to find the corresponding credit payment options to complete their transactions.

All existing credit bills incurred by users prior to this change must still be repaid on time according to the original rules. Overdue payments will continue to be reported and affect personal credit scores as per regulations. The new adjustments do not include any provisions for debt relief; users should remain mindful of repayment deadlines to avoid overdue status.

After seeing the news about the new regulations taking effect, many users took to social media to leave comments and likes in support.

Many people have complained that, although they didn't actively choose credit payment options before, payment platforms always set Huabei and Baitiao as the default choices. A single accidental click could lead to unintended consequences. Sometimes, even small purchases like a meal costing just a few dozen yuan were mysteriously defaulted to installment plans. Various "buy now, pay later" prompts also constantly appeared on checkout pages. Previously, it was unclear why these products insisted on being featured prominently on the main payment page.
