The Coalition confirmed that the multiplayer season roadmap for Gears of War: E-Day will be announced closer to launch, with continued updates post-release. As a prequel to the main series, the game features both a campaign and multiplayer mode as part of its ongoing content.
One of the multiplayer modes, "Horde Siege," allows up to 12 players to split into three squads, completing objectives while fending off waves of Locust forces. The Coalition plans to add new classes, maps, missions, and special conditions with adjusted rules to this mode, along with seasonal content, including the limited-time "Trick or Treat" mode during the Halloween event.
There is also a plan for obtaining cosmetic items in multiplayer mode. The Coalition stated that almost all customization items can be earned through gameplay, including completing seasonal and event challenges, unlocking achievements, earning classic medals, and exchanging coins earned from matches at the barracks. Some character and weapon skins require the premium in-game currency "Iron" to unlock, and their availability will be limited.
Premium edition items and charity/collaboration content will include a small number of paid-only items, such as the "Ride the Lightning" weapon skin set in collaboration with Metallica. The Coalition stated that each season will add characters, weapon skins, customization elements, challenges, and events; the game does not have a battle pass and will not feature pay-to-win mechanics.
All versus modes at launch are designed for 4v4 matches and do not use weapon mods. Team Deathmatch includes a dynamic respawn system that places respawn points closer to combat zones; victory still depends on which team depletes the opponent's respawn count first. "Domination" requires teams to capture and hold designated areas on the map, while "Demolition" revolves around securing a bomb and delivering it to one of two enemy drop-off points.
Another mode, "Furnace," requires teams to compete for energy cores and maintain control within designated areas. As rounds progress, these areas will move and shrink; players holding a core can also use its charge to attack opponents.
