"The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remastered" has just launched on the Switch 2, and the NS2 emulator Lichii can already boot and run the game on PC. Currently, only some Lichit derivative branches can run this title, while the official original version of Lichii still cannot run it properly. The game is still far from being fully playable at this stage, with numerous severe graphical bugs: open-world scenes suffer from screen flickering, image artifacts, and abnormal bloom rendering. Only the Great Deku Tree area runs relatively well.
YouTuber reznoire released a demo video showcasing the Great Deku Tree level, using an i9-14900K + RTX 4090 setup. The creator did not specify which branch version was used. The video shows that the emulator fails to fully utilize CPU and GPU performance, with this high-end PC managing only 40 FPS when running the game.
Another test video from Finn Benchmarks, using the Selevet branch version with an R7 9800X3D paired with an RTX 5080, achieves 60 FPS in the Great Deku Tree scene.
We recommend that average users wait a few more weeks for the main Lichii version to add compatibility for this title. Even so, the fact that a newly released Switch 2 game can successfully boot on an emulator is astonishing. It is not unlikely that Nintendo will follow its previous approach with the Yuzu emulator and take action to have this emulator removed.
It is worth mentioning that the Eglantine and Lichii emulators can already launch several Switch 2 games, including "Donkey Kong: Banana Blitz" and "Mario Kart World."
