NIS America Says It Will Continue Releasing Physical Games; Sony Is Listening to Player Feedback

In response to Sony's plan to stop producing physical game media in 2028, Kenzo Saruhashi, head of NIS America, stated that the company still intends to continue releasing physical editions of games. He also mentioned that Sony is listening to player feedback, and related arrangements may change in the future.

Sega and Capcom have previously stated that they are not particularly concerned about Sony's decision. The situation is different for NIS America: the company frequently sells collector's editions through its own store, and these products are an important part of its business. Recently, the company also adjusted its use of game key cards on Switch 2 in response to customer demand for physical releases.

Saruhashi discussed communications with Sony during this year's PAX West. He stated that he doesn't have any more information than the average consumer, but NIS America first and foremost wants to continue producing physical editions and maintain the product quality that customers expect.

When asked if boxed products might switch to including redemption codes after Sony stops producing physical media in January 2028, Saruhashi acknowledged that this is a possibility. He also stated that, based on his current discussions with Sony, the company has heard significant customer feedback, so the final plan could still change as discussions continue.

Sony has stated that it will continue to provide some form of solution to retailers. The specific format of this solution has not yet been clarified, and NIS America has not confirmed what form physical editions will take at that time.
