A preliminary report from the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association of Japan states that revenue in the Japanese PC gaming market grew by approximately 134% from 2021 to 2025. However, the figures listed in the material are approximately 132.1 billion yen and 300 million yen, which do not correspond to this increase.
Japan is the home market for Sony and Nintendo, whose consoles have long dominated the industry. Xbox consoles and PC games have previously struggled to compete. This preliminary report was shared during the Tokyo Game Show, with the full report expected to be released in December.
The top three best-selling games on Steam in Japan are Counter-Strike 2, Apex Legends, and PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS, all of which are free-to-play titles. Most high-revenue PC games target the global market; among them, the report highlights Monster Hunter Wilds as a standout Japanese domestic title.
In terms of playtime, Left 4 Dead and Terraria rank as the top two PC games in Japan, with Stardew Valley also making the list.
The preliminary report also states that, aside from the Switch 2, performance in other console markets varied, while the mobile gaming market grew by approximately 4.5%.
