Doug Cockle, the English voice actor for Geralt, recalled his recording experience for the first The Witcher game. He stated that all the game's dialogue was recorded in about eight days, with five consecutive days involving six to seven hours of work each day.
Cockle originally landed the role through a standard audition and learned about Geralt's characterization from CDPR developers. Since Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher novels had not yet been translated into English at the time, he could not read the original texts and had to rely on information provided by the development team to understand the character.
Geralt's voice was set at a very low point in Cockle's vocal range. Maintaining this voice for extended periods left his throat severely fatigued after each day's work, forcing him to return to his hotel to drink mint tea or lemon-ginger tea before continuing recording the next day. After the game's release, this performance left a distinct impression on players.
Cockle has long been a fan of fantasy works such as The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Eragon, and Conan the Barbarian, so he was very interested in stepping into this new fantasy world. He has now confirmed that he will once again portray Geralt in The Witcher 4. CDPR stated that even if Geralt is no longer at the center of the story, he will remain an important character in the series.
