As the first live-action spin-off short series of "The Three-Body Problem," the show consists of 12 episodes. It is produced by the original creative team behind the TV adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem," with Liu Cixin serving as executive producer, Yang Lei returning as director, and Lu Beike handling visual direction. In terms of cast, Yu Hewei returns to play Shi Qiang, Zhang Luyi continues his role as Wang Miao, and Lin Yongjian makes a special appearance. The series will be exclusively streamed on Tencent Video and Aurora TV.

The story features entirely original content, with a timeline that picks up after the conclusion of the "Operation Guzheng" in the first season, filling the narrative gap between the first book and the second book, "The Dark Forest." Set in Year 3 of the Crisis Era, Shi Qiang works for the PDC's Earth Defense Security Department while battling a terminal illness. Just as he is about to bid farewell to Wang Miao, humanity's main defense plans suffer a major setback, with suspected remnants of the ETO or other hidden forces causing chaos behind the scenes. Forced to join forces once again, Shi Qiang and Wang Miao launch an investigation. The story continues the detective storyline while expanding into an ensemble narrative, centering on the conflict between humanity's two major strategies: "Escape" and "Defense." The series will also introduce numerous new world-building elements, such as survival experiment zones in the Asian and Antarctic regions, and space plant simulation experiments.

In addition to "The Three-Body Problem: Da Shi," the TV adaptation of "The Three-Body Problem II: The Dark Forest" and the Three-Body film project are also in development, with officials stating that sufficient time will be allocated to polish the works.
