The classic British children's TV show Knightmare is being adapted into a point-and-click adventure game. The new title is scheduled to launch on PC as a free-to-play indie game in 2027, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the show's premiere.
The original series aired on ITV from 1987 to 1994. In the show, a team of four children would participate, with one member wearing a vision-restricting helmet to enter a dungeon composed of blue screens, computer-generated imagery, and hand-drawn artwork; the other three would watch the footage from the studio and issue action commands to their teammate.
The new title is being developed by a team led by writer and designer Ewen Watson, with authorization from the show's creator Tim Child. Original cast members including Hugo Myatt, Mark Knight, Clifford Barry, Edmund Dehn, Iona Kennedy, Paul Valentine, and Alec Westwood will return to provide voice acting. Watson stated that all in-game visuals are hand-drawn, ensuring that Everythinggj players see and hear is created by real people.
The development team has also adjusted the original rules of the show, removing the "Vitality" mechanic that continuously depleted when players refused to eat, allowing for more relaxed exploration. The game is expected to take one to two hours to complete, and there are currently no plans for a console release. This will be the third time Knightmare has been adapted into a game, with previous titles released in 1987 and 1991.
