The surreal platformer Abellina is scheduled for release in 2027 and is now available to wishlist on Steam. Set in the afterlife, the game casts players as Vasily, who has been dead for some time, as he seeks happiness anew in the strange world of "Abellina."
Vasily lives alongside a few others in similar circumstances, spending his days tending to gardens and carving masks while trying not to question the true nature of this place. Its visual aesthetic left the original author with a subjective impression reminiscent of Soviet stop-motion animation.
Based on current footage, the game centers around exploring lush, otherworldly spaces. Characters can fly, roll objects like dung beetles, and perform precision jumps. The environments feature open areas and branching paths where the correct route isn't always obvious, with a mysterious "rabbit-cat" creature providing guidance during exploration.
The project is led by Gabe Askew, who has contributed to CG animation for Valorant, League of Legends, and Love, Death & Robots. The soundtrack is composed by Ryan Holladay. No specific release date has been announced yet, and it remains unclear whether there will be a formal puzzle system beyond the platforming gameplay.
