Blizzard Entertainment is offering a limited-time free trial of World of Warcraft's upcoming Diablo-style mode, "Talebound," which features three playable classes and three adventure stories, available in both solo and co-op modes. The trial will be available on the Public Test Realm until November 2 and does not require a paid subscription.
World of Warcraft players will have the chance to experience something different this weekend, as Blizzard is offering a free trial of the upcoming action RPG mode, "Talebound." This mode will launch as part of the "Echoes of the World Core" update for the Midnight expansion, taking players into the dark fantasy world of Quel'Grave, where a mysterious Storyteller guides adventurers through a series of sinister tales. Its action-oriented gameplay and gloomy atmosphere may particularly attract fans of Blizzard's Diablo series.
The demo includes three playable classes: Slayer, Inquisitor, and Witch. Players can experience three standalone adventures—Darkhaven, Green Thistle Forest, and the Greywake Expedition—with choices of Normal, Veteran, and Heroic difficulties. You can play solo or team up with friends to experience this new mode in various ways before its official release (release date for the full version is yet to be determined).
However, the trial period is quite short: players can access it via the World of Warcraft Public Test Realm (PTR) until 10:00 AM PT on November 2. Notably, a paid World of Warcraft subscription is not required, so even lapsed subscribers can participate. Players only need a Battle.net account, a high-spec PC, and a separately installed PTR client. The steps are as follows:
Install and/or launch Battle.net
Create and/or log in to your Battle.net account
Select World of Warcraft
Select Public Test Realm (Live) from the game version selector
Download and install the PTR client
Launch it to access the Talebound demo
The "Story Bonds" initiative will be added to the game with the "Echoes of the World Core" update following the World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion. Set in the dark fantasy region of Quel'Grave, a mysterious "Storyteller" will guide adventurers through a series of eerie tales. Inspired by action RPGs, this mode emphasizes dynamic combat and a oppressive atmosphere, a style that may appeal to fans of the Diablo series.
This demo features three classes—Slayer, Inquisitor, and Witch—and offers three standalone adventures: Darkhaven, Green Thistle Forest, and the Greywake Expedition. Each segment includes Normal, Veteran, and Heroic difficulties, allowing players to explore the mode through various class, difficulty, and party configurations. Currently, there is no confirmed release date for the full version.
