The classic dungeon-crawling board game HeroQuest is getting a digital adaptation titled HeroQuest: Digital Edition. Scheduled for release on Steam in 2027, the game will support online play for up to five players and will begin closed beta testing soon.
Developed by Nomad Games, the base content is derived from the deluxe remastered version released by Avalon Hill. Players will battle enemies like goblins in dungeons, disarm traps, search for treasure, and cast spells.
In single-player mode, the computer controls the evil wizard and his minions. Online multiplayer allows up to four players to take on the roles of heroes, while a fifth player can assume control of the villain Zargon. The game can be played cooperatively or retain the tabletop structure with a human-controlled dungeon threat.
The game will also feature a quest editor, allowing players to design their own maps and quests and download community-created content via mod.io. This version uses the US setting, so the villain is named Zargon instead of Morcar. It remains unconfirmed whether some rule improvements from HeroQuest: First Light will be included.
The exact dates, eligibility criteria, and pricing for the closed beta of HeroQuest: Digital Edition have not yet been announced.
