The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 Spans Five Years as Sauron and Elves Go to All-Out War

Season 3 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" will advance the story by five years, merging the previously scattered storylines into an all-out war between Sauron and the Elves. The new season is scheduled to premiere on Prime Video on November 11.

Co-showrunner Patrick McKay stated that five years is enough time for Middle-earth to undergo massive changes. War has swept across the land, with Sauron conquering most regions, leaving only two resistance forces protected by the Elven Rings. While advancing the main war storyline, Season 3 will also further explore the characters' emotions and psychology.

At the end of Season 2, Sauron killed Celebrimbor and seized the Nine Rings of Men. After the fall of Eregion, the surviving Elves fled to what would later become Rivendell; the Stranger's true identity was confirmed to be Gandalf, and the Balrog was also released.

According to the plot synopsis released by Amazon, Sauron's armies have begun their advance, with few strongholds still resisting. These include the Dwarf Kingdom of Khazad-dûm, sealed within the mountains, as well as Elven territories such as Lindon and Rivendell. Elves, Dwarves, Free Men, and Wizards must join forces to prevent Sauron from forging the One Ring.

Morfydd Clark, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman will continue their roles. Galadriel's long-lost love, Celeborn, will make his debut in Season 3, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower.
