Former Xbox COO Helen Chiang Denies Being Fired for Policy Violations

Recently, former Xbox Chief Operating Officer Bonnie Kang publicly responded to the controversy surrounding her departure, explicitly denying that she was fired for policy violations, but did not explain the direct reason for her exit. She stated that the circulating narratives were inaccurate and that this was "not the whole story."

Bonnie Kang worked at Microsoft for over 20 years and was promoted to Xbox's first Chief Operating Officer in July 2026, overseeing the overall profit and loss for content, hardware, platform, and services businesses. She left the company about three months later. Anonymous sources previously claimed she was fired for policy violations, a narrative supported by other sources and journalists, though the specific nature of the alleged misconduct has never been clarified.

In a LinkedIn article titled "Clarity is Kindness," Bonnie Kang systematically denied allegations of leaking confidential information to reporters, joining a competitor after her departure, discrimination, bullying, harassment, insider trading, embezzlement, and other fraudulent activities. She also denied leaving because she was not offered a higher position. She stated that she only participated in company-authorized interviews and had not contacted the journalists who had reached out to her about the matter before publishing her post.

She also expressed serious concerns about how fairness and accountability standards were applied in this matter. A Microsoft spokesperson stated that the company does not discuss individual personnel matters; former Xbox executive Shannon Loftis publicly voiced support for Bonnie Kang, while Xbox head Asha Sharma indicated that updates regarding the Chief Operating Officer position would be provided in the future.
