Nearly two years after the announcement of the Ōkami sequel, it will still be some time before its official reveal. Hideki Kamiya, founder and director of Clovers, admitted that the rising public expectations have placed greater pressure on him, so he advises players to "not expect too much."
In an interview at Lucca Comics & Games 2026, Hideki Kamiya stated that this sequel has become his mission. When developing new games in the past, there were no established expectations from the outside, making the projects more unpredictable; now that he is working on a sequel, he clearly feels the growing anticipation from players.
Clovers is recruiting veteran developers who previously worked on the original Ōkami, Bayonetta, and other titles. The sequel will be built using the RE Engine, aiming to continue the art style and story of its predecessor, with the protagonist Amaterasu returning. Capcom maintains trust in Clovers and adopts a hands-off approach during development.
The original Ōkami was released in 2006. Although it received critical acclaim, it was not a commercial success. Nevertheless, the game has always been cherished by a loyal fanbase. Currently, the official title of the sequel has yet to be confirmed, and its release date, gameplay details, and platforms have not been announced.
