Kan Gao, founder of Freebird Games and creator of the To the Moon series, has officially announced his new free personal project, Fantasy Private Chat, expected to launch in 2027. The announcement coincides with the 15th anniversary of To the Moon.
Fantasy Private Chat will feature hand-drawn pixel art created by the Freebird Games art team. Players will follow Kan Gao as he explores various scenes, conversing with different fictional characters he has created over the years, with these interactions weaving together personal memories spanning approximately two decades.
The game covers slices of life, behind-the-scenes stories from development, and Kan Gao's previously unreleased personal reflections. Kan Gao stated that this idea stems from his childhood habit: being introverted, he often held conversations with characters from his self-created stories in his mind. Later, making games and composing music became ways to make these imagined worlds and characters feel "real."
Kan Gao is currently completing the final installment of the To the Moon series. As this creative journey nears its conclusion, he hopes to use Fantasy Private Chat to create space for the fictional characters who have accompanied him over the years to continue existing, while also organizing his personal memories and sharing more behind-the-scenes insights with players. This title is not a traditional sequel; instead, it focuses on a private dialogue between the creator himself, his old characters, and his long development experiences.
