The third DLC for Frostpunk 2, titled The Torrents, has been announced with a trailer and will launch on PC and consoles on December 14. This expansion centers on a large-scale narrative campaign, adding branching choices, new resources, and technologies to combat storms.
In the campaign, a group of survivors crossing the frozen wastelands of America arrives at a mysterious valley, seeking legendary artifacts left behind by a great genius that could reshape the world. Players must lead their people on this journey, exploring the valley, caves, and ruins, while handling faction disputes erupting over the new resources.
In terms of gameplay, Frostpunk 2: The Torrents will unlock new exploration areas. New resources will drive high levels of city automation, while related technologies can harness natural disasters, transforming the destructive "Whiteout" into harvestable and storable resources. Players can also delve into caves and ruins to find treasures, making decisions between faction demands and resource utilization.
Frostpunk 2 will receive only maintenance support going forward, but the series' universe will continue with Frostpunk 1886 and an upcoming title of an unannounced genre. The Torrents expansion offers existing players a complete campaign rather than just additional maps or numerical content.
