Reports suggest that the Intel Arc B580 graphics card may soon be discontinued as the company prioritizes more profitable workstation and AI inference GPUs. This rumor echoes recent reports about Nvidia shifting GB202 chip production away from the RTX 5090, although neither company has confirmed this news.
The Intel Arc B580 graphics card could become the latest consumer GPU to be discontinued due to rising profits from professional AI hardware. Recent rumors suggest that Intel is considering halting production of its flagship gaming GPU, Battlemage, to prioritize more profitable workstation products. This news aligns with recent reports about Nvidia shifting the GB202 chip away from the GeForce RTX 5090.
According to leaker Haze (@Haze2K1), Intel may be discontinuing the Arc B580 and shifting resources to the Arc Pro series. The leaker specifically mentioned the Arc Pro B50, claiming that Intel's professional-grade GPUs are seeing strong demand in the AI inference sector. The Arc B580 uses Intel's BMG-G21 chip, which is also used in professional products like the Arc Pro B50 and B60. The consumer-grade B580 features 20 Xe cores and 12GB of GDDR6 VRAM, while the B60 has 20 Xe cores and 24GB of VRAM, with some manufacturers (such as Maxsun and Sparkle) offering versions with up to 48GB of VRAM.
Nvidia is facing a very similar situation. As we previously reported, multiple sources indicate that Nvidia is reallocating the GB202 GPU originally intended for the GeForce RTX 5090 to the more profitable RTX Pro graphics cards. Subsequently, reports emerged that a board partner was unable to pre-order RTX 5090 kits, seemingly corroborating these rumors. However, Nvidia insists that the RTX 5090 has not been discontinued and states that shipments will continue.
It is becoming increasingly difficult to buy the Intel Arc B580 graphics card at its original price. Launched in December 2024 at $249, the card recently sold for around $330 on Newegg, while prices for some models in the UK have climbed to approximately £500.
Looking back, Intel initially positioned the Arc B580 as a graphics card priced under $300 with performance comparable to the RTX xx60-xx70 series, making it one of the few cost-effective options on the market. Unfortunately, supply for this card has been tight even before the AI boom swept the market.
